When Obedience Doesn't Equal Ease

We’re entering what I like to call the Super Bowl of the Christian faith—Holy Week.

Palm Sunday kicks off this sacred time, during which we are reminded that even in celebration, Jesus was walking toward the cross. It’s a week soaked in symbolism, sacrifice, and the kind of steadfast love only He could offer.

And this year, I can’t stop thinking about another moment in Scripture—one that feels a little closer to how life often feels when you’re in a season of stretching.

Exodus 14.

The Israelites stood at the edge of the Red Sea, fleeing for their lives with Pharaoh’s army behind them. The water in front of them seemed like the end. But God made a way—He parted the sea.

I try to imagine what it felt like to walk between those walls of water. Terrified? Confused? Shaken but obedient?

It wasn’t a pretty Instagram moment—it was raw, real faith.

And I’ve had my own Red Sea moments.

  • When I chose to continue a pregnancy others may not have understood…
  • When I said yes to launching a business that made no “logical” sense…
  • When I packed up my life and left a place I once called home…

Every time, I wanted the other side to come quickly. I thought obedience would mean instant ease.

But let’s not forget what came after the miracle—the Israelites wandered for 40 years before reaching the Promised Land.

Now, I’m praying my journey doesn’t take quite that long (amen?), but what I’m learning is this:

  • Just because the sea parts doesn’t mean the journey ends.
  • Just because He calls you doesn’t mean it’ll feel comfortable.
  • Just because it’s hard doesn’t mean it’s not holy.

This Holy Week, I’m reminding myself—and maybe you too—that the victory has already been won.

  • Even when we can’t see the full path…
  • Even when the timeline is longer than we want…
  • Even when we’re tired, scared, or uncertain…

We fix our eyes on Him.
We walk forward in faith.
We stand firm on what He already promised.

We may not have reached the destination yet, but we do have His glory. His grace. His love. Right here. Right now.

So no matter what season you’re walking through this Holy Week—whether it feels like celebration or wilderness—draw your eyes back to Him.

He’s already made a way.
And you’re not walking alone.

Standing with you in faith,

Sharon
